Crystal Palace striker-turned-winger WAYNE ANDREWS is hopeful he can win a new contract at the club, despite being frustrated in not being given a prolonged run in the Palace side, by Stuart Pink.

The 28-year-old will be out of contract at the end of the season and hopes to be offered at least a two-year extension.

But despite impressing in his new right-wing role in recent weeks, ANDREWS still found himself on the bench for the Eagles last two league games against Reading and Southampton, with Iain Dowie preferring to play Tom Soares out of position.

ANDREWS said: "I'm at the stage now where I need a two or three-year contract. But whether I get it here or not I don't know. If we go up the picture changes.

"I'm happy with everything that's going on but I just want to play more football really."

The ex-Aldershot and Colchester forward admitted it did hurt when he was not selected to play in the Eagles' vital league match with Reading two weeks ago, especially after playing an important role in Palace's recent rivival.

But the popular frontman is honest enough to understand the manager's decision, even if it meant missing out.

ANDREWS said: "Sometimes you have to pick and choose your games. Wrongly or rightly he Dowie chose the Reading game, but I spoke to a couple of their players and they thought I was going to play.

"In that respect when you're a left back and you can have someone that will run and not take you on, you'll have that all day. If I come on it's a whole new situation."
